WILLIAM B (JACK) HARRELL, JR, 91 of Houston, TX passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2010. Jack loved his wife, family, work, hunting & golf. His devotion to these areas was passionate and well known. Born Oct. 25, 1918 in Fort Worth, TX, the son of Elizabeth Glover and William B. Harrell. Jack served in the Air Force in the European Theater attaining rank of Captain as a bombardier during World War II. His aircraft was disabled over Polesti, Romania forcing him to parachute into Yugoslavia & spend 6 wks with the underground before returning to Italy. After the war, Jack resumed work at the Houston Chronicle, as a Circulation Dept. supervisor. He worked at Ammons Ins. Agency as a producer from 1950-1961, then established Harrell Insurance Agency, later to become Harrell, Young & Braniff Ins. Agency, where he remained active until retirement in 1999. An ardent golfer, Jack served as president of Golfcrest Country Club (1959), Houston Golf Association (1962), Brae Burn Country Club (1973) & Texas Golf Association (1978-79). As a past president he continued as a life member of the Houston Golf Assoc. & TX Golf Assoc. until his death. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife & soul mate, Betty. He is survived by son William B. Harrell, III (Bill), daughter Jan Elizabeth Harrell, sister Beatrice (Bea) Miears & numerous nieces & nephews. Special appreciation to Hospice Compassus & Christina Oliver, Beverly Wharton & other caregivers as well as staff & friends at Bayou Manor. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Tuesday February 16, 2010 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Scott Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas. Arrangements under the direction of Scott Funeral Home, 1421 East Hwy. 6, Alvin, Texas 77511. (281) 585-1000. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Betty Harrell's honor to Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast TX Chapter. Pallbearers: Marshall Pearson, Kenneth Miears, Gilbert Miears, Bob Young, Noel Braniff & Rick Rule.
