Billie Charles "Bill" Smiley was born August 9th, 1940 at Springfield, Arkansas to parents Sam & Josephine Charlotte Dorothy (Keller) Smiley. He died Thursday, February 11th, 2010 at his home in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 69.

Bill was raised in Oklahoma and Washington. In 1958 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam retiring in 1978 as a Staff Sergeant. He worked for the Union Pacific railroad in Spokane & Puyallup, Washington and finally at Hinkle in Hermiston. On December 1st, 1984 he married Romie Bitco at Vancouver, BC, Canada on 1 Dec. 1985. Bill worked as a security guard at the Umatilla Army Depot and at Marlette Homes. He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. He enjoyed fishing, model airplanes, camping, and puzzles.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Romie of Hermiston, OR; Sons, Stephan Smiley of Harrisburg, PA, Michael Smiley of Auburn, WA, and Samuel Smiley of Spokane, WA; Daughters, Diana Smiley of East Hickory, PA, Laura Smiley of Littleton, CO, Jenny Smiley of Portland, OR, and Monica Smiley of Hermiston, OR; 2 Brothers, Sam Smiley of Hermiston, OR, and Rick Smiley of Carson, WA; Sister, Peggy Gutschmidt of Green Valley, AZ; 12 Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sam & Josephine Smiley and a Granddaughter, Tyra Smiley.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, February 15th, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Burial with military honors will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
