John Riippa
NORWAY—John D. Riippa, 51, of Norway, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998 at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital in Ontonagon.
Mr. Riippa was born Oct. 17, 1946 in Hancock, son of Helvi E. (Lofback) and the late John R. Riippa. He graduated from Jeffers High School in 1964.
He married the former Thelma Arcand on June 2, 1990 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway.
Mr. Riippa was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a member and past master of Copper Country Lodge 135 F.&A.M. in Houghton.
He owned and operated Northwest Industrial Sales and Service and Winona Trucking in Iron Mountain. He previously owned and operated the Riippa Saw Mill in Winona with his father.
He leaves his wife, Thelma Riippa of Norway; three sons, David Johnson of Great Lakes, Ill., Andrew Johnson of East Lansing, lower Michigan and John M. Riippa of Norway; three daughters, Beth Johnson, Danielle Johnson and Victoria Riippa, all of Norway; his mother, Helvi E. (Lofback) Riippa of [redacted],: two brothers, Doug (Markay) Riippa of Grand Rapids, lower Michigan and Phil (Kathy) Riippa of Chassell; a sister, Judy Riippa of [redacted].; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miner Funeral Home of Norway. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway. Rev. Jennifer Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Norway Township Cemetery.
