Lela Rector Lemmon, 83, of Terre Haute died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in Davis Gardens Health Care Center. She was a retired home economics teacher and had worked for Vigo County School Corporation for 36 years. She was born July 20, 1921, in Vigo County to Russell Rector and Gertrude Hein Rector. Her husband, Robert E. Lemmon, whom she married May 5, 1943, preceded her in death July 27, 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Smith of Fort Wayne, and Janet Cline of Kiawah Island, South Carolina; two sons, Bruce Lemmon of Terre Haute, and Mark A. Lemmon of Winchester, Virginia; one sister, Helen Kempf of Terre Haute; two brothers, Robert Rector of Riley, and Marvin Rector of Avon; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Noble Rector, who died in 1992. She was a 1941 graduate of Indiana State University. She was a member of Vigo County Retired Teachers Association Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and AARP. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Avenue, with the Rev. Roy Carpenter officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Robert and Lela Lemmon Scholarship Fund, in care of the ISU Foundation.
