Clifford L'Hommedieu, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene.
He was born July, 31, 1925, in Smithtown, N.Y., the son of Raymond and Frances (Heasley) L'Hommedieu. Growing to manhood in Smithtown, he attended local schools and graduated from Smithtown High School with the class of 1942. On Sept. 2, 1945, he married Virginia Webb. All their married life was spent in Abilene. She preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2010. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Pacific theater. He had been employed by Smithtown Fire Department, Froelich Grocery in Enterprise as a meat cutter, was a past chief of the Enterprise Fire Department, had worked for Abilene Motors and Green Ford for 34 years. He was a member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church, Hope Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine, Eagles, Elks and was a past commander of the Enterprise American Legion. Survivors include his two sons, Ward of Wichita and Lee of Holden,?La.; and one grandson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers.The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at the Enterprise United Methodist Church with Pastors Cheryl Mickie and Roger Walls officiating. Clifford and Virginia will be inurned together following the service in the Mt. Hope Cemetery south of Enterprise.
