Raymond F. Minnick, 82, of Springfield, a longtime U.S. Postal Service employee fondly known as the "whistling mailman" and a World War II veteran, died Feb. 14 at home.

Born in Clementon, N.J., Mr. Minnick later moved to Philadelphia. He was a resident of Upper Darby for 50 years. He attended Our Lady of Victory Grade School and St. Thomas More High School, Class of 1945.

Mr. Minnick worked for the Upper Darby Post Office for 32 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Minnick was known for his jovial whistling while delivering the mail. Also, he was the last horse and wagon delivery man for Sealtest in Philadelphia. He also had a wall-scraping business and worked as an insurance salesman.

After retirement, he worked part-time for Enterprise, while also traveling with his wife and friends to numerous destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean and Ireland.

One of his favorite pastimes was attending the many football, basketball, baseball, hockey and lacrosse games of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many summers with his family, extended family and friends at the New Jersey shore.

Survivors: Wife of 62 years, Catherine Veronica Welsh Minnick; sons, Raymond Minnick of Malvern, James Minnick of Morton, Steve Minnick of Broomall; daughters, Cathy Duncan of Pennington, N.J., Maureen Dienno of Austin, Texas; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Service: Mass, 11 a.m. Friday, St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill.

Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Thursday, 10-10:45 a.m. Friday, The Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill.

Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple.
