Sylvia D. Hoagland, 88, died Dec. 22, 2007, at Elm Grove Estates, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 16, 1919, in rural Hanston, the daughter of George and Maidie Hoff Powell. A longtime resident of Burdett, moving to Hutchinson, she was a homemaker and retired school cook and manager for Burdett school.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, charter member of the Burdett Seniors, Jolly Dozen Club, Cow Belles of Pawnee County, and the Federation of Women Club, all in Burdett.
On Sept. 12, 1938, she married Merrill L. Hoagland in Larned. He died Aug. 13, 2000.
Survivors include: a son, Farrell, Goddard; a daughter, Gloria Dreiling, Hutchinson; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Chester, Lester, Roy, George and Muril Powel; and three sisters, Beirnie Macy, Hazel Salmans and Bernice Dixon.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Burdett, with Pastor Richard Zimmerman presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned. Burial will be in Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett.
Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church or the Burdett Emergency Medical Service, both in care of the funeral home.
