Charles E. Bradley of Galien, enlisted in Co. G. of the 26th Michigan on August 7, 1862, at the age of 21. He was discharged at Washington, D.C. on June 6, 1865. Born in 1841, he died at age 81 in 1922 and was buried in the Galien Cemetery, Berrien County, Michigan with his wife, Mary (White). John Bradley served in Co. E. and his brother-in-law George W. Spangenburg, (Spangenberg or Spengenburch /Spankenburgh), of Galien, Berrien County, also served in Co. G. 26th MI He was taken prisoner at 2nd Deep Bottom on August 16, 1864, and was supposedly listed in Belle Isle Prison at Richmond, Virginia on October 4, 1864. He died of disease in Confederate prison at Salisbury, North Carolina on December 18 or 19, 1864. His family believed he was to be exchanged in the near future. His widow, Eunice J. (White) had a brother, Lorenzo Dow White, who served in the 17th Michigan and was badly wounded at Antietam but died an old man in Indiana. Eunice later moved west and is buried in Kirwin, Kansas. 26th Michigan service included: Alexandria, Washington, Suffolk, the New York Draft Riots, Mine Run, Wilderness, Po River, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, Petersburg including Deep Bottom, Ream's Station, Cedar Level Station, White Oak Swamp & Hatcher's Run, Fort Fisher, Sayler's Creek & Farmville, Appomattox and The Grand Review.
