"Our community has been made sad by the news of the tragic death of Mr. S. L. Ellis at Repton on the 25th instant. He was formerly a citizen of this county, and highly respected and loved by all who knew him. It seems that one John Posey had some words with Mr. Jackson, and while passing where Mr. Ellis was standing, he struck him with a knife below the eye causing death in a few minutes. Some claim this blow was accidental, so far as it was intended for Mr. Ellis, others think the blow was intentionally give. Posey has escaped..."
