JOHN DAVIS
John Davis came to Jud Mar. 10, 1905. He came to Edgeley with an immigrant car that con- tained stock, machinery and household goods. There was no railroad to Jud so he came to Jud on the railroad grade- Mrs. Davis came a week later and went to her father's (Wm. Neel) homestead.
About three weeks after coming here he bought a quarter of land southwest of Jud from Geo. Holcomb, now the Christian Nitschke farm.
He farmed that year and also started a dray line. He unloaded lumber from railroad cars for the lumber yards. At one time he had 22 cars of lumber on the track.
In 1905 the Salzer Lumber Co. and North Star Lumber Co. put up their yards, then the Thorpe elevator and Lyon elevator were built.
Mrs. Davis started teaching school in 1905 and taught 1906, 1907 & 1908, and the spring of

1909 in a little white school about ]/i miles
southeast of Jud on the farm now owned by Fred Jahn. In 1909 a two room school was built in Jud. Here she taught the first five grades.
Miss Lena Otterson from Minn, taught 6, 7, 8 and the 1st year high school.
All elections were held in the little white school house-
He sold his dray line to Frank Wilson in 1907.
John Davis was born in 1875 in Tawa, Iowa. He married Anna Neel, who was born in 1879, in
Sun, Iowa on April 24, 1879.
They had three children, Leslie of Sandy,
Utah; Velma Mrs. Robert Christensen) deceased; Roland of Casper, Wyoming.
The first Sunday school was started in the summer of 1905 with Elmer Manning as superin- tendent. It was held in that little white school house. These are some of the families that at- tended: Chas. Hawley, O. B. Johnson, Jim Steele, Roy Miracle, John Davis, James Withnell, Malin Layton.
The Davis home at present is at Sandy, Utah.
