Mrs. Lessig, 85, Dies In East Borough
Mrs. Mary E. Lessig, widow of Joseph H. Lessig, 111 Ridgeway St., East Stroudsburg, died at her home Saturday at 10:45 p.m. at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 21 days. Her husband preceded her in death a month after they had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 20, 1946.
Mrs. Lessig was a native of Monroe county, and had spent her whole life in East Stroudsburg. She was ill for a number of years and seriously ill since last Wednesday.
A member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran church, East Stroudsburg, and one of the early members of the Monroe County Garden Club, Mrs. Lessig had a wide circle of friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Small, at home, and by six grandchildren: Richard Lessig and Mrs. John Reilly, Philadelphia; Benjamin Small, Staten Island, NJ; Mrs. Paul Granacher, Norristown; Joseph H. Small, East Stroudsburg; Mrs. Joseph Ferenc, South Stroudsburg. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Lanterman funeral home with Rev. William F. Wunder officiating. Interment will be made in a crypt at the Stroudsburg mausoleum. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mary is buried in the mausoleum in Stroudsburg Union Cemetery. She left a will which mentions her daughter, Bessie (Lessig) Small, and the Small grandchildren. (Monroe Co. estate file #4466, will book 20, pg. 163)
