SUDDEN DEMISE OF MRS. SUSAN B. CURTIS

Aged Widow of Former Acting Governor of This State Joins the Vast Majority.

While seated at the breakfast table yesterday morning at the Capitol hotel, Mrs. Susan L. Curtis, widow of E. J. Curtis, at one time territorial secretary and acting governor of Idaho, was stricken with apolexy. She was carried to her room, where she expired without regaining conciousness. Definate funeral arrangements have not been decided upon, but it is likely the obsequies will be held on Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in Masonic [Pioneer] cemetery, beside the body of her husband and eldest son, Edward L. Curtis, who died in this city in 1890.

Mrs. Susan L. Curtis had been a resident of Boise since 1862. She was born in Connecticut June, 1829. In 1852 she went to California, where she was for a number of years an instructor. For some time she was in charge of the public schools of Sacramento. In that city she and Mr. Curtis were married. At one time she had the complete management of the Trinity County Journal, owned by her husband, the latter at teh time having been compelled to be away. Mrs. Curtis was a direct descendant of Ezra Stiles, the first president of Yale.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis came to Idaho in 1862. In a very short time they became prominent in social and political circles. Mr. Curtis died in this city in 1895.

Mrs. [Anna] J. K. [Jesse Kilgore] Dubois, William Curtis, both of Boise; John J. Curtis, a stenographer in the war department at Washington, and Harry Curtis, assayer of the Dewey mine at Thunder mountain, are the surviving children. The last two have been notified of the death but it hardly probably that they will be able to reach the city in time for the funeral.
