SALEM - Claude J. Emmert, 70, died Wed., Nov. 21, 2001 in a heavy equipment accident at Silver Falls State Park.
Claude was born in Dayton, Or. and lived there until 1960, graduating from Dayton High School in 1949. After serving in the U.S. Air Force he married Glenice Willson of McMinnvile on Oct. 26, 1952. Prior to being hired with the Oregon State Police he worked as a truck driver, school bus driver and mechanic. In 1960 he moved to Salem where he began a 25 year career with the Oregon State Police retiring in 1985. He was an avid horseman, and had been a member of the Salem Saddle Club and Oregon Mounted Posse for 18 years.
For the last 12 years he has worked summers for the State Police serving at Silver Fall State Park as the resident trooper.
He enjoyed full time RVing and volunteer work, which included fire fighter for the Dayton Fire Dept., construction at West Salem Baptist Church and Salem Academy in years past.
He is survived by his wife, Glenice; son, Randall; daughters, Vicki Boyles, Lorna Royle, Linda Knight and Sharon Gwyn; and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services to be held on Tues., Nov. 27, 2001 at Salem First Church of the Nazarene, 1550 Market St NE at 1 1 a.m. Private interment at Dayton IOOF Cemetery in Dayton, Ore. Contributions can be made to Friends of Silver Falls and Union Gospel Mission. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
