Betty Rogers Flaxbeard

Betty Rogers Flaxbeard went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 20, 2010, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Betty Richardson Rogers Flaxbeard was born at home in Goss, Louisiana on January 6, 1929 to Ben and Lillie Richardson.

She was the ninth child of ten children.

She graduated from Van High School in 1945 at the age of 16. She then attended Park College in Parkville, MO and Northwest State in Natchosa, LA.

She attended and graduated from business school in Tyler, Texas.

She started to work for Halliburton Services in Wichita Falls, Texas but transferred to Duncan to work for Halliburton in 1948.

She met the love of her life there, Jack Rogers, in April 1948 and they were married in Duncan on July 18, 1948.

She and Jack raised three children in Duncan, Jimmy, Steve and Jackie.

After her children were all in school, Betty went to work at Immanual Baptist Church in 1962 as the secretary and worked there for ten years ending in 1972.

She then went to work part-time at Signal Oil Company for two years and then part-time for the Stephens County Treasurer's Office for three years.

They lived in Duncan until Jack retired from Halliburton after 35 years and moved to Rocky Comfort, Missouri in April 1977.

She became actively involved in her church, Prosperity Baptist Church, in Rocky Comfort.

She was the treasurer for years for her church where she also taught Sunday School and loved to be involved in Vacation Bible School each year.

She was one of the founding members for the McDonald County Rural Water Board and served for 4 years on the board.

Betty worked for the U.S. Post Office for 19 years total with the last 9 years as the Postmaster in Wheaton, Missouri.

She was also involved with the Wheaton Senior Citizens.

Jack died in Missouri on July 16, 1989 after being married for 41 years.

She was a widow for nine years until she met Virgil Flaxbeard and they were married on September 5, 1998.

Betty and Virgil enjoyed being together and traveling for several years until she had a stroke in 2002. After which, they still enjoyed spending time together with each other's families and taking care of each other until her final days.

Betty is survived by Virgil, her husband, and her children: Jim and Janelle Rogers, Steve and Tracy Rogers of Rocky Comfort, MO; and Jackie and Steve Darter of Duncan, OK and Virgil's children: Brenda Love of Rocky Comfort, Linda Granger of Purdy, Karen Brown of Fairview and Terril Murphy of Marshfield. She had eight grandchildren: Justin and wife Angie Rogers, Bluejacket, OK; Joshua and wife Kendall Rogers, Katy, TX; Jebediah and wife Jeannie Rogers of Oxford, NE; Sara Zellner, Edmond, OK; Rachael & husband Leon Phillippi, Glenpool, OK; Dustin and wife Kerrie Rogers, Niceville, FL; Daniel and wife Jessica Rogers of Topeka, KS; and John Darter, Duncan, OK. She also had nine great-grandchildren: John Michael and Brieanna Rogers of Bluejacket, OK; Leevi, Tyler, and Weston Rogers of Oxford, NE; Clayton and Kelsi Rogers of Topeka, KS; Zoey Zellner of Edmond, OK; and Carson Rogers of Katy, TX.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and loved by her many friends.

Her funeral will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 2:00 at her loved Prosperity Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be her sons, son-in-law, and grandsons.

Burial will be in Rocky Comfort Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.

It was Mom's wish that In lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Prosperity Baptist Church Living Center Fund, P.O. Box, Rocky Comfort, MO 64861.
