"Funeral Record, Herman Ernest Bentz
Funeral services for Herman Ernest Bentz, 703 East Norfolk avenue, who died Tuesday morning, were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Grace Lutheran, with the Rev. W. C. Rehwaldt in charge.
Mr. Bentz was born at Ridgeley Twp., Neb., in Dodge county, April 20, 1875, and was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran, March 30, 1890. On Oct. 10, 1900, he was married to Lizzie Wagner, and to this union eleven children were born, three of whom preceded their father in death.
After their marriage the couple made their home in Scribner before coming to Norfolk in 1917. He had been employed in the engineering department of the Chicago Northwestern company for seventeen years.
He died Tuesday morning about 10 o'clock while working in the railroad yards at Creston. He was 61 years of age.
Besides his wife he is survived by eight children, all of whom were here for the services. They are Mrs. Elizabeth DeVore, O'Neill; Mrs. Cecil Newman, Rock Rapids, Iowa.; Mrs. William McGinty, Norfolk; Robert, John, Marie, Alice and Earl, all at home.
Other out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were Mrs. Emma Miller, a sister; Mrs. Ed Brandt, Mrs. Ernest Bentz, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bentz, and Mr. and Mrs. William Bentz, all of Fremont; John Bentz, Sr., a brother and Mrs. Bentz, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bentz and daughter, and John Bentz, Jr., Snyder; August Bentz, a brother, Mrs. Bentz and daughter, Pender; Mr. and Mrs. August Wagner and sons, Central City; Mrs. Emma Bauer, Mrs. Harry Bauer, Mrs. Otto Wapelhorst, Mrs. Charles Spath, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hall, all of Scribner; Mrs. Robert Anderson, Sr. and son, Newman Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Carl DeVore, Albion, and Richard Daniell Jr. and Geraldine Heffley, both of Stanton.
Other brothers and sisters surviving include Mrs. T.A. Negley, Norfolk; Mrs. Minnie Weigand, Scribner; Jule Bentz, Orange City, Ore., and a half brother Tony Eilts, Rapid City, S.D. The last three were unable to be here for the services.
Interment was made in the new Lutheran cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Raymond Bernhardt, Ferd Cherrington, Casper Rasmussen, Arthur Kell, Arthur Ward and John Knowles."
