MARY ELIZABETH O'DONOVAN ALFORD
1928 - 2010

Our beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Elizabeth, 81, went to her heavenly home late Friday night peacefully, February 19 after three years suffering from Alzheimer's. We thank God for her life, her love of life, and we feel honored and blessed to have been able to enjoy her for so long. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, the beach, and taking care of her family! She worked at K-Mart, Mobile Hwy. for 15 years and was a homemaker. She was a devoted Catholic and a long time member of Saint Anne's Catholic Church of Bellview.
Elizabeth was born December 24, 1928 in Pensacola to her parents Leonard O'Donovan and Florence Smith O'Donovan.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank J. Alford; son, Frank J. Alford, Jr. (Sonny); her siblings, Leonard O'Donovan, Rubin O'Donovan, Moline Torrey, Cora McElroy, Florence Merrigan and Catherine Ryan.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann (Robert) Hurrell; her son, Timothy Edward (Cindy) Alford; her brother, John O'Donovan, all of Pensacola; her grandchildren, Jason (Tonya) Hurrell of Ft. Riley, KS, Heather (Bill) Varis of Tampa, FL, David (Ivana) Hurrell of Ft. Monmouth, NJ; and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tina and Peter James Varis of Tampa, FL, Mia and Lukas Hurrell of Ft. Monmouth, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Ashbury Place Alzheimer Unit's staff and Covenant Hospice for their loving care given to our mom!
Visitation will be at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Funeral Mass will be St. Anne's Catholic Church, Saufley Field Road, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2010 with Father John Licari officiating.
