Madeline E. Serrano, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, who treasured her family, went to heaven Feb. 26, 2009 at Barstow Community Hospital. She was born April 15, 1938 in Erie, Pa., and was the sixth of 11 children of the late Howard W. Black Sr., and Gertrude E. Blakeslee Black.
Madeline loved the lord and was a member of the Hi Desert Word Center Church in Barstow.
She was a homemaker and had an endless amount of energy and love for her family. She loved spending time with her family especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, when all of the family gathered on Christmas Eve for opening presents and a big Christmas dinner. Christmas was her favorite holiday to celebrate. She loved life and always had a smile. Madeline had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around with her family and play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she was a big kid at heart.
Madeline was preceded in death by a daughter, Kalina R. Mennecke; granddaughter, Tanya J. Gordon; brother's Howard Black Jr., Donald Black; and sister's June Hewitt and Betty Sharppo.
Surviving Madeline is her husband of 33 years, Everardo Serrano of Yermo; daughter, Tina Gordon and her husband, Gene of Newberry Springs; sons, Clay Mennecke and his wife Chris of Albion, Pa., Eric Mennecke and his wife, Angel of Huber Heights, Ohio, Michael Mennecke and his wife, Pat of Evelyth, Minn., Cody Mennecke and his wife, Regina of Erie, Pa; daughter, Delarene Weiss and her husband, Fred of Silver Lakes; sons, Colin Mennecke and his wife Jennifer of Newberry Springs, Walter Mennecke and his wife Tammy of Yermo; brother's, Jerome Black of Pittsburgh, Pa., Robert Black and his wife Thelma of Flint, Mich.; sisters Charlene Griffith and her husband, Paul of Meadville, Pa., Dale Wodarski and her husband Richard of Glenburny Maryland; brother, Daniel Fickenworth of Albion, Pa.; sister, Judith Perstello of Winder, Ga. Madeline had 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
