BERT M. AIRY
Sad indeed is the death of Bert M. Airy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dell Airy, which occurred Sunday morning, August 8th, 1926, after an illness of three years, caused by a tumor on the brain. Bert possessed a kind and loving disposition in the home, where he will be sadly missed.
Bert was born May 31, 1909, and at the time of his passing on into the better realm, was 17 years, 2 months and 8 days old. He was the eldest son of Dell and Dora Airy, and of the immediate family, leaves to mourn his passing, his father and mother, sister, Mildred, and four brothers, Loren, John, Eldon and Raymond Paul. One sister preceded him in death.
Bert was converted during a revival meeting and at the age of twelve years united with the Christian church in which he was a faithful worker. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts organization. He entered the Derby high school at the age of 13 years and was attending there when illness crept upon him.
On July 3rd, 1924, he underwent a serious surgical operation at Rochester which relieved his suffering. He re-entered school the following fall and continued until Christmas time, then returned to the hospital at Rochester for the second operation, which gave him temporary relief.
His great desire was to graduate with his class. He entered school again in September, 1925, and continued until March, when he lost his eyesight. He then entered the M. E. hospital at Des Moines in hope of regaining his sight. On returning home he was able to be about until five weeks ago when he took to his bed. All was done that kind and loving hands could do. Gradually he grew weaker until he fell into a peaceful sleep.
He is at rest and has entered the "House of Many Mansions." "He has fought a good fight, he has kept the course and a crown of righteousness he now wears."
Rev. J. D. Pontius, of Chariton, Iowa, conducted the funeral services at the Christian church at Last Chance at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Six intimate friends of the deceased, Bernard Baker, Claire Throckmorton, Harold Hitt, Roy Hitt, Gerald Miller and Merrill Malone, tenderly bore the casket to its last resting place in the beautiful Last Chance cemetery.
