Esther M. Jackson, 90, widow of Walter C. Jackson, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at Manatawny Manor Nursing Home, East Coventry. She was born in Williamsport, on Aug. 12, 1917, the daughter of the late Barbara Johnson and William Dozier. Esther was employed as a dietician for the Day Care Association of Montgomery County at Rickett's Center, and then was reassigned to Jefferson School until she retired. Upon moving to Pottstown, she attended Bethel A.M.E. Church and later was baptized at Second Baptist Church on Sept. 4, 1934. She was devoted to God, her family and her church. She taught Sunday school for more than 60 years, was a member of the senior choir and worked as an active member of the Great Missionary Group.
Esther was a member for more than 50 years of the Keystone Chapter No. 87. She held the position of secretary for many, many years and was appointed District Lecturer of the Third, O. E. S. District. The love of her life after retirement was volunteering as a foster grandmother with children at Barth School until her health began to fail.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a true friend who always gave unconditional love and never asked anything in return.
The funeral celebration will be held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 240 Mintzer St., Pottstown, officiated by Rev. Vernon Ross on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. Interment is to follow the services at Edgewood Cemetery , Pottstown. There will be a viewing at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Esther M.
