Sam was the son of Samuel Glover and Martha "Mattie" Frances (Bowman) Williams. He was raised on a farm south of Weableau. Sam completed his high school education at the Weaubleau High School in 1923. After teaching at the Elm Springs School for two (2) years, he continued his own education by attending the Baptist College in Bolivar, MO for two (2) summers and one winter; he then transferred to the Springfield Teachers College for his last summer; and completed additonal work at Central Missouri Teachers College. Upon graduating college, Sam served as superintendent of schools for Brownington, Henry County, Missouri, for about a year (1928) at which time he accepted the position as superintendent of schools for Eminence, Shannon County, Missouri (1929). Unfortunately the onset of the depression caused the cancellation of school in the county; Sam returned to his father's farm. Upon moving to Kansas City he worked at Sheffield Steel Corp for a short time before being inducted into the U.S. Army for service in WW II. Sam remembered the bitter fighting from Omaha Beach into France where his unit liberated Alsayse-Loran, France. After the war he married Freda Alma Cowen (Dec 26, 1945. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service January 1, 1975 with a total of 33 years military and civil service time. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Raytown since 1956 was a member of the choir and the harmonica band.
