The funeral for Melvin Alveshere, 96, of Harlow was held at the Leeds Lutheran Church. Interment was in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery at Harlow. He died Feb. 12, 2005 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Severin Alveshere was born June 4, 1908 at Gardner, Ill. to Thomas and Mallen Nelson Alveshere. At the age of six he moved with his family to Wells County, near Harvey. He was reared there and attended rural school. He farmed with his family until marriage to Ella Frovig June 28, 1934 at Manfred. They lived and farmed in various Wells County and Benson County locations before moving in 1941 to their farm in Butte Valley Township west of Harlow. They opened their home to many foster children through through the years and adopted the last three. He retired in 1973 and continued living on the farm until becoming a resident of the Heart of America Medical Center in 2002.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Harlow and later of the Leeds Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the churches, teaching Sunday school, serving as Sunday school superintendent, deacon and trustee. He was also active in the Easter North Dakota District of Evangelical Lutheran Church and Lutheran Brotherhood. He enjoyed driving horse.

Survivors include his wife of Rugby; his family, Lois (Mrs. John) Enander of Stanley, Orval (Judy) Alveshere of Fargo, Marvin (Diane) Alveshere of Bismarck, Duane (Shirley) Alveshere of Hastings, Minn., Jim (Cherie) Alveshere of Renton, Wash., Donald Alveshere and Laurie Forsberg of Denver, Colo. and Christie Cox of Grand Forks; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Alveshere of Harvey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lilly, Nellie and Minnie; and four brothers, Bennie, Martin, Tanner and infant Bennie.
