FAIRDALE -- Arthur R. Klosa Jr., 72, formerly of Freeport, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at his home in Fairdale after an extended illness. Arthur was a liver transplant recipient in 1997, and received treatment for esophageal cancer. He was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Freeport, the son of Arthur and Martha Ruthe Klosa. He attended Freeport schools. Arthur retired from the U.S. Air Force as as Master Sergeant, having served from 1947 to 1969. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. Arthur was assigned to the United States Secret Service (OSI) for the White House from 1969 to 1979 for the administrations of Presidents Johnson and Nixon. He was employed at Micro Switch in Freeport until 1984, and Menards in Cherry Valley for ten years. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Jackie Klosa of Fairdale; daughters, Yvette (Peter) DeWispelaere of Kirkland, Donna Peek of Atlanta, Ga., Kelly (Joe) Mertens of Keil, Wis., Blaze Elliott of Freeport and Dawn (Steve) Reiter of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; son, Lance (Jill) Klosa of Westfield, Wis.; sisters, Joyce Kurtz of Freeport, Eileen (Don) Meyer of Dubuque, Iowa, Sandra (John) Butler and Noni (Jim) Burds, both of Thornton, Colo.; brothers, Henry (Matilda) Klosa of Freeport and Joe (Olga) Klosa of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; dear friend, Jerome Smith of Houston, Texas; and pets, Lady and Missy. Predeceased by parents.
Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, in Kirkland Fire Station, preceded by memorial visitation from 4 p.m. to service time. Interment June 28, in Arlington National Cemetery.
