Kessinger, Eunice, 94, a resident of Park West Manor in Wichita, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Service, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, First Church of the Brethren, 1103 Jefferson in Wichita. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mulvane Cemetery. Eunice was born September 8, 1915 near Mulvane. She was the daughter of Virgil and Jessie (Howard) Kessinger. She graduated from Mulvane High School and American Business College in Wichita and was employed as a secretary and insurance analyst in Wichita for most of her adult life until retiring in 1982. Eunice resided on South Washington Street in Wichita for over 50 years until moving to Park West Manor in 2002. Upon her father's death in 1950, her mother lived with her at her Wichita home for 25 years. Eunice was a member of First Church of the Brethren in Wichita and remained active until late in life. She was keenly interested in seeing the world and traveled on annual vacations throughout the United States and to several European countries. Sometimes she included nieces and nephews to travel with her on these trips. Besides travel, she was passionate about bowling and was a member of local leagues for most of her adult life. She will be remembered especially for her compassion, her hospitality, and her good-natured sense of humor. Preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Alta (Kessinger) Brewer, and her brother, Dale Kessinger. Survivors include seven nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers and in celebration of Eunice's life, the family has asked that gifts be made to Hospice Care of Kansas, 808 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211 in appreciation for the compassionate care given Eunice, or to The Salvation Army, 350 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67202, an organization Eunice did volunteer work for during her retirement. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
