JEROME G. VALENTA
(1956 - 2010)

Jerome G. Valenta, age 73, of 18218 Highway B, Mishicot, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 14, 1936, in the town of Franklin, to the late Frank and Josephine Bolz Valenta, and has been a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of the Mishicot High School graduating with the class of 1956. Jerome served his country in the United States Marines as a Tank Commander and was a Sharp Shooter in Korea. He married the former Marilyn Stueck on Nov. 3, 1956, and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1996.

He worked for the Hamilton Manufacturing Company in the maintenance department and retired from there in January of 1997. Jerome was one of the founders of the Manitowoc Co. Sheep Producers Association, and was active with the local 4- H groups. He was a member of the Manitowoc Meat Animal Sale Committee, and the Expo and Manitowoc County Fair Board. He was also a member of the Mishicot Lions Club, and served as a steward for the Local Machinist's Union for Hamilton Fisher. In 1984 he earned the County, District, and State Wildlife Habitat Development Award, and was State Conservationist of the year. Family was very important to him. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone that needed him. For the past 13 years he enjoyed traveling, and most recently enjoyed a trip to France with his sister, Mary Lou, returning this past Thursday.

Survivors include one daughter: Lisa Taylor and her special friend, Bill Tuschel, both of Mishicot; three sons: Jerome Jr. (Lora) Valenta, of Two Rivers, Kevin (Bobbie) Valenta, of Mishicot, Darrell (Victoria) Valenta, of Mishicot; his grandchildren: Allie, Cody, Marilyn, Brian, Blake Shaw, Travis, Jericho, Colt, Dr. Nicholee (Clinton) Theiss, and Deanna Theiss. Jerome is further survived by one sister and brother-in-law: Mary Lou and Bill Rochleau, of Mishicot; five brothers and four sisters-in-law: Ray (Pat) Valenta, of Two Rivers, Ben (Nancy) Valenta, of Mishicot, Francis (Rita) Valenta, of Mishicot, Richard (Carol) Valenta, of Green Bay, Jimmy Valenta, of Mishicot; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Marvin and Joyce Stueck, of Green Bay; and by his nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and his wife, Marilyn, he was preceded in death by one daughter; a son-in-law: Dan Taylor; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Earl Stueck and Anna Vehen Stueck.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Gibson, with the Reverend Maurice L. Hoppe officiating, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Relatives and friend may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday (TONIGHT) at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State St., Mishicot. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. on Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Gibson, until the time of service at 11 a.m.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
