SOUTH PORTLAND - Constance Margaret Scully, 88, died on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at a local hospital. She was born in Portland on April 13, 1921, a daughter of Arthur J. and Margaret Silke Cullinan. She attended local schools, graduating from South Portland High School in 1939 and later Gorham Teachers' College.
She began her teaching career in Jewett City, Conn., followed by teaching positions in Oxford and Portland Public Schools. She married John Paul Scully Jr. on Aug. 30, 1947, at Holy Cross Church in South Portland. He predeceased her on Jan. 10, 2003.
Mrs. Scully was predeceased by a sister, Joan E. Bernard; a brother, Robert V. Cullinan; and her sister and brother-in-law, Starr and Benjamin Rice.
Surviving are two daughters, Anne Scully Varney of Westbrook and Constance Scully Palys and her husband, Frank, of South Portland; three sons, P. Gregory Scully and his wife, Susan, of Portland, David A. Scully and his wife, Kathleen, of Littleton, Mass., and Kevin J. Scully and his wife, Patricia, of Waterville. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her sisters, Eileen M. Cullinan of South Portland and Zita C. Hornidge of Pine Beach, N.J., and her sister-in-law, Mary B. Cullinan of South Portland and Vero Beach, Fla.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. (Morning Sentinel 2/26/2010)
