CHURCH HILL -- Rayburn Carson Thacker, 65, died Tuesday at his home.
Mr. Thacker has a number of family members and friends in the Greene County area.
His family stated, "He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
"Rayburn was a born again Christian and attended First Baptist Church of Church Hill prior to his decline with his illness.
"He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army."
He retired from the Kingsport Press and was on the Auxiliary Police Force and Church Hill Rescue Squad.
Mr. Thacker had served two terms as alderman for the city of Church Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years: Shelba Jean Fields Thacker; two sons and their wives: Darrell and Kristie Thacker of Surgoinsville and Jeff and Heather Thacker of Church Hill; two grandchildren; his mother: Millicent Thacker; two brothers and their wives: Randall "Sonny" and Kathy Thacker and Rick and Amanda Thacker, all of Rogersville; a sister and her husband: Karen and Earl Reed; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Thacker, and a brother, Waylon Thacker
