Born in Roanoke, his family moved to the Tidewater area in the 1940's. Mr. Hamblin worked for the Newport News City Fire Department for 27 years, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Hamblin is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Louise Hamblin; his daughter, Emma Jean Ivey; his mother, Emma Hamblin; his father, Earl Hamblin; and his brother, Ernest Hamblin.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne Hamblin; two daughters, Bonnie Idle and Doris Schasckeck; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing is scheduled at Weymouth Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in Seaford by the Rev. John Haynes. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full Fire Department Honors.
The family thanks the wonderful friends from Zion United Methodist Church and his friends and neighbors in Seaford. God gives us what we need when we need it and these folks were our greatest gifts during this difficult time.
