Physician and farmer in Edgefield SC. Served as a Captain in the CSA Army. Served several terms in both houses of the SC Legislature. Suceeded to Lt. Governor of SC in 1893 from president pro tempore of the Senate and was then elected to that office. Member of Constitutional Convention of 1895. Served 2 terms as State Treasurer.

Batesburg SC, July 13, 1908 - Dr. Timmerman in Extremis - Former Lieutenant Governor Suffering with Attack of Pneumonia - Family Summoned to Bedside - Dr. W. H. Timmerman, former secretary of state and lieutenant governor of South Carolina, is critically ill at his home here, suffering with an attack of pneumonia. Owing to his extreme age, 75 years, Dr. Timmerman’s chances of recovery are regarded as very slight. All the members of his family have been summoned to the bedside. Dr. Timmerman, who is a practical physician, has expressed the opinion that he can not survive the attack. The State, July 14, 1908.
