Mrs. Emma Ellen Flowers, widow of the late Harvey Dale Flowers, passed away at the Valley-Hi Nursing Home in Colorado Springs on Monday, Sept. 1960, at 11:30 p.m. Her youngest son, Bob, was with her at the time of her death.

She had been ill for several years, and had been bed fast since April, 1957 following a severe stroke. Mr. and Mrs. Flowers came to Buena Vista in 1922, after residing in Osborne County, Kansas. Harvey Flowers died July 30, 1947, and was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mrs. Flowers continued to make her home in Buena Vista until her health made it neccesary for her to have constant nursing care. She was a lady of pleasing personality, and lofty ideals who devoted her life to her husband and family.

Emma Ellen Rathbun was born in Downs, Kansas, on June 29, 1887, the eldest child of Joseph Addison Rathbun and Addie (Ashburn) Rathbun. Emma was united in marriage to Harvey Dale Flowers October 22, 1909, in Kansas. To this union were born six children. Harry, who preceded them in death in March of 1926, Alice Brown, who has been in Phitsanulok, Thailand, for 3 years, Aileen Gregg of Buena Vista, Irvin of Roseville, Calif., John of Seattle , Wash. who is on the Santa Juana on the Pacific en route to South America at this time, and Bob of Buena Vista. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Rhea Armsbury of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, several nieces and nephews, eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandsons.

Services were held Thursday, Sept. 22nd, at the Stranahan Mortuary at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Bud Carpenter of the Congregational Church. Appropriate piano selections were offered by Mrs. Undine Schuette.

The floral offerings were beautiful symbols of the sentiments of relatives and friends. Interment services were in Mt. Olivet Cemetery beside her husband and son.

Pall bearers were Mr. E. R. Daniels, Mr. William Turner, Mr. Tyler Wright, Mr. Dale Morgan, Mr. John Perschbacher and Mr. George Tegeler.

Relatives and friends who were here from out-of-town for the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. Warren Armsbury of Glenwood Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Gene O'Connor of Salida, Mrs. Mae Manning of Salida, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Noland of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. G.T. O'Connor of Denver and Nathrop, and Mrs. Georgia White, Woodland Park, Colo.
