Mrs. Hazel Ruth Gantz, 60, wife of Samuel J. Gantz, Waynesboro, died Monday night in the Waynesboro Hospital.
Mrs. Gantz was born in Emmitsburg (**please see note at end), daughter of George and Martha (Smith) Sprenkle. Her early life was sent in the vicinity of Emmisburg. She went to Waynesboro in 1912 and was married two years later.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church.
Surviving are her husband and two sons, Robert, Waynesboro, and Paul, at home; two brothers, Albert Sprenkle, Frederick, and Harry Sprenkle, Harney; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Steele, Mrs. Frances Tawney, both of Frederick; Mrs. Caroline Rolfe, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Ida Reaver, Taneytown; her mother, Mrs. Martha Jane Little, Frederick, and her stepfather, Thomas Little, Frederick."

NOTE: Although her death certificate and obituary show she was born in Emmitsburg, MD, apparently her next of kin was confused. Hazel grew up in MD, so that is probably why they were confused. The 1900 and 1910 censuses, when she was a child, show that she was born in PA. Her birth record image is now available on Ancestry in their PA Births database. The record shows she was born in Hamiltonban Twp., Adams Co., PA.
