Thomas gave land for a church, which was organized in his home about 1842, The Disciples church at Dunreith. A log church was erected on a lot which he donated.
The Dunreith Cemetery lies on what was once the property of Thomas Johnson. From his will: "And it is my will that there be a reserve of one quarter of an acre of ground near the North west corner of my plantation for the purpose of a graveyard to be laid off most convenient to include those graves that are now there and not to be sold or traded on any occasion whatever but to be and remain forever for that purpose."
Thomas married Frances Boatright (daughter of Daniel Boatright). Their children:
William Johnson
Thomas J Johnson Jr
Catherine (Caty) Johnson
Patsy (Martha) Johnson
Daniel Johnson
Edmund Johnson
Sarah (Sary) Johnson
Pendleton Johnson
George Washington Johnson
