Lynn D. Shives, 81, died Aug. 18 at his residence. Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Hoisington, he was the son of William and Pansy (McClane) Shives. He married Clementine Billinger on May 7, 1951, at St. Peter, Kan. He was a retired oilfield worker and a longtime Hoisington resident.

Mr. Shives was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1521, also of Hoisington.

Survivors, include his wife, of the home, three sons, William J. Shives and Ronnie L. Shives and his wife Nancy, all of Hoisington, and James L. Shives and his wife Anita of Evanston, Wyo.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daython Shives, and a sister, Dolores Newell.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a K of C rosary, both at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Dwight Birket officiating. Burial will be at the St. John Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, to the St. John Cemetery fund, or to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice.
