On December 25, 1864, the last Christmas of the Civil War, Washington Whitcomb Jr. of Co. H. 26th Michigan, died of disease at his home in Wheatfield Twp Michigan. He had enlisted at Jackson on August 20, 1862, at the age of 28. His grave is in the Cabot Cemetery at Williamston, Ingham County, Michigan.
