Matthew Richard Powers, 82, died Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 2010, in a local hospital.
He was born July 31, 1927, in Meaderville to James Francis and Gertrude (Callanan) Powers, both natives of County Waterford, Ireland.
Matthew attended Holy Savior and Boys Central in Butte and on April 23, 1948, he married Mary Bowler in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Matt worked as a superintendent at the precipitation plant for the Anaconda Co. and later Atlantic Richfield Co. and retired in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Butte; daughters and son-in-law, Ellen and Bill Davis of Seattle, Trudy Powers of Bellingham, Wash., Elaine Powers of Butte; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sherry Powers of Butte, Mike Powers of Butte and Diane Powers of Livingston; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary O'Neill of Prescott Valley, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dave Powers; brother, Joseph Powers; and sister, Gertrude.
Cremation has taken place in Butte. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Haffey officiating. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
