Services for Mrs. Gilbert (Aileen) Gregg, who died in Salida hospital October 30, were held in Salida and Buena Vista Friday, November 1.
Mrs. Gregg was a outstanding civic leader in Buena Vista for all of her adult life and she was eulogized as a courageous woman of immense faith, compassion, courage, and understanding.
Mrs. Gregg was a native of Osborne County, Kansas, being born there August 8, 1914, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Harvey D. Flowers. She moved with her family to Buena Vista in 1920,graduating from high school in 1931, and marrying Gilbert Gregg, long-time publisher of the Chaffee County Republican, on January 28, 1933.
She was a member of the Buena Vista Fortnightly Club, the school board of District 9 and the Buena Vista Library Board of Directors for many years.
Her efforts on behalf of the Buena Vista Library building contributed in great measure to its realization and the family has asked those wishing to remember Mrs. Gregg do so by donating to the Buena Vista Library Association.
A memorial service to Mrs. Gregg was conducted at the Salida 808 Elks Lodge, followed by graveside services at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Buena Vista, with Rev. Vaughn Hollenbeck conducting both rites. She was a member of the First Congregation Church.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gregg is survived by three daughters. She is also survived by nine grandsons and one granddaughter.
Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Flowers of Buena Vista, and Jack Flowers of Shelton, Washington, and a sister Alice Brown of Fountain Valley, California.
