Born March 7, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., to Jamie W. and Jenny (Burke) Edwards, he married Evadale Hoisington on Feb. 17, 1950, in Kahoka, Mo. They shared 50 years together before she passed away in 2000.
Surviving are sons, John (Diana) Edwards of Galesburg, Ill., and Dana (Sheryl) Wright of Bonner Springs, Kan.; grandchildren, Rich Rodgers, Rob Rodgers, Chris Wright, Amanda Wright, Matt Wright, Danielle Bohm, Courtney Marcotte and Arly Edwards; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Lauterdale of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerri Lee Rodgers.
Jim was a switchman/conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1985 after 44 years of service, and was a member of the United Transportation Union Local 445.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the Battleship California, and was the first post commander of VFW Post 4999 in Chillicothe.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Davison-Fulton Anderson Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, also at Davison-Fulton Anderson Chapel. Interment will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery, with the Rev. Ted Mitchell officiating. Full military honors will be accorded.
