Carolyn B. Bills Acord
January 03, 1934 - December 28, 2006

CAROLYN B. ACORD Loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Carolyn B. Acord, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Dec. 28, 2006, at 1:13 p.m. in Overland Park, Kansas at the age of 72.

Carolyn was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the second oldest of five children.

She married Dewey Acord July 9, 1958 and together they raised five children.

Carolyn worked for K-Mart for 23 years, most of which she served as personnel manager.

She was also a contributing partner in her husband's farm and heating and cooling businesses.

Carolyn believed in working hard and giving her best effort at whatever she did, and instilled that same work ethic in each of her children.

Carolyn was no stranger to pain and adversity. She overcame the effects of four major back surgeries and maintained her strength and character to continue to enjoy life and accomplish what she set out to do.

In addition to faithfully loving and supporting her husband of 48 years, Carolyn was a devoted mother and grandmother with a very generous heart and was always there to support and encourage her family.

She was a devoted servant both in her church and at home.

She especially enjoyed cooking large meals for her family during the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas Day would not be complete without her 7-plus course meals that covered virtually the entire kitchen table.

She enjoyed music, playing the piano, sewing, watching science fiction movies, reading mystery novels, and flower gardening.

Carolyn delighted in being around her family, especially her grandchildren, in whose lives she played a vital role.

Her desire to stay physically fit was evidenced by her memberships at various fitness centers over the years. In her later years, she was a member of a walking club.

She is preceded in death by father Farrell Bills, brother William Bills, mother Frances Amy Bills, and stepsons Steven W. Acord and Timothy D. Acord.

She is survived by husband Dewey Acord of Shawnee, Kan., son David Acord of Chillicothe, Mo., daughter Connie Clair of Shawnee, Kan., son Kevan Acord of Overland Park, Kan., sister Jackie Trujillo of Cupertino, Calif., brother Victor R. Bills of Salt Lake City, Utah, brother Kelly F. Bills of Draper, Utah, and 10 grandchildren.

Viewing and funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ward 2, 7100 Hadley, Overland Park, Kan. on Thursday, January 4.

Viewing will be from 9-10:40 a.m. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m.

A luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the graveside service.

Interment at Pleasant View Cemetery, Shawnee, Kan.
