Hiram was the first surviving child of George Heavenhill and Sarah Clark. George had five children from a previous marriage to Jane McHatton (1799- ) With Sarah he had seven more.

Hiram married Sarah Richmond on the 4th of July, 1836 in Tazewell Co., Illinois. They had eleven children, 8 girls and 3 boys as follows:

Hiram's first child was born the month after his father died. His three youngest siblings were Clark, age 16, Jane, age 13, and William, age 11 when their father died in 1838.
Fielding, age 22 and Oliver, age 20, probably stayed in the household to help their mother. Fielding married six years later, Oliver not until 1848 by then, William was 21.

When George married Sarah, he was 35, she was only 21, and there were already five children in the household between the ages of 2 and 7. They had 7 more children in the next 15 years. George's first-born child, Cyrus, was 21 years older than the youngest, William.

Hiram's monument has both Heavenhill and Havenhill on it.
