He attended the Citizens Military Training Camp, August 1922.

Enlisted, October 6, 1924, in Medical Detachment, 101st Cavalry Regiment, NYNG, at
the Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. He was later transferred, October 10, 1927, to Troop A and transferred to the National Guard Reserve, as a private, April 12, 1928. He was discharged October 9, 1928.

Both his father Thurston and brother were members of the 101st Cavalry Regiment.

World War 2, he entered service, December 16, 1943, and was assigned Detachment D, 14th Port Company, Transportation Corps and he was discharged from the service, September 27, 1945.

He held the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, Cavalry.
