BIOGRAPHY: Johann was born on the river bank of the Erms River in the village of Dettingen/Erms, Wüerttemberg. This was next to the Black Forest not far from Stuttgart. Historically, for more than 400 years, this is where the HAAS (& BECK) generations lived. Johann was a Manufacturer and Fireman/Engineer there.

Marriage[1]: Elizabeth BECK, 19 Sep 1867, Dettingen/Erms, Wüerttemberg. Elizabeth's parents are Johann Jakob BECK and Maria Agnes MULLER. In Dettingen/Erms is where Elizabeth was born 13 Oct 1843 and died 28 Oct 1875 when giving childbirth to her seventh child, Johann.

All issues were born in Dettingen/Erms, Wüerttemberg with exception of the last 5 issues whom were born in Plevna, Reno, Kansas.

In 1882, the first two daughters Maria Agnes & Marie Barbara {apparently with other relatives} emigrated Wüerttemberg. Two years later on March 2, 1884, nine remaining HAAS family members departed Bremen, Wüerttemberg, Germany on the steamship "Baltimore", which also used sails. They were on the ocean for 22 days, 17 of which were very stormy. They landed at Baltimore, Maryland on March 27, 1884 and went from there by train to Nickerson, Kansas, where relatives of the family lived. Johann was naturalized Abt 1886. He lived life as a farmer in Plevna, Reno, Kansas until his death in 1916.
