Charles Franklin Powell was born September 23, 1887 in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life June 13, 1969 at the age of eighty one years, eight months and twenty one days. He moved to Nebraska as a young man and married Hazel B. Terry on February 17, 1915 in Imperial.
To this union was born seven children. The major part of his life he farmed in Chase County until 1946 at which time he moved with his family to Salem, Oregon. Four of his children graduated from Chase County High School. He was active almost to the day of his death having worked as a salesman for the past twelve years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He leaves to mourn his death his widow, Hazel, and three sons and four daughters: Myron of Boise, Idaho; Bernard of Woodburn, Oregon; Dale of Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Fauneil Harrison of Sheridan, Wyoming; Mrs. Vonda Fletcher of Renton, Washington; Mrs. Joyce Brown and Mrs. Beulah Brown of Salem, Oregon. In addition, two sisters survive him. Mrs. Mary O'Neil of McCook, and Mrs. Rose Furrow of Imperial as well as twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Charles Powell was a lover of everything just, right, honest, and true. He had a zeal for living, possessed by very few of his age. Included in this zest for life was a natural overflow to all those around him exhibited in his loyalty and devotion to his wife, and his loving and patient care for his children. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled in the lives of his family and friends. [Jeri Herbert, 2013]
