Lt. Commander Meyer was a World War I Navy veteran. He was promoted from the ranks (Mustang)and retired from the Navy in 1943. He saw sea duty on the USS R-22, USS S-48, USS Argonne, USS Pittsburg, USS West Virginia, USS South Dakota and the USS St. Louis. He was awarded the United States Navy Good Conduct medal, the Mexican Service medal and the World War I Victory medal with Escort bar.
