Anthony Gerald "Jerry" Cheshire, 72, of Hartford passed away peacefully from his life on earth to eternity in heaven on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at his residence.
Jerry was born on Feb. 24, 1933, in New Hope, Ky., the son of Thaddeus and Bessie (Williamson) Cheshire, both of whom preceded him in death. Jerry served his country in the Korean War and recently was recognized by Governor John Engler through special commendation for his sacrifice. Jerry was employed through Coloma Community Schools as its Transportation Supervisor and Grounds Superintendent. He was also a local farmer for several years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated to honor his memory at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hartford. Father Robert Flickinger will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford, where military rites will be performed by VFW Post 1137, VFW Post 6803 and American Legion Post 362 and its auxiliary. Memorials may be made to South Haven Area Hospice.
Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Luella Moore, whom he married on Aug. 14, 1954. Also surviving are four sons -- Tony Cheshire of Lawrence, Mike (Beverly) Cheshire of Hartford, Don (Kathy) Cheshire of Harbor Springs and Jeff (Theresa) Cheshire of Heber City, Utah; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers -- Kenneth (Doris) Cheshire, Jim (Ann) Cheshire and Stan Cheshire.
Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Joe Cheshire; and a sister, Freda Harbin.
