Samantha Dean was born 12Aug1821 near lake Erie in Canada. When she was about 14-16 years old her family moved west and settled in Canton Twp., Wayne Co., Michigan where her father was a successful farmer and township officer.

Samantha married English immigrant Thomas Lambert on 19Jul1842 in Nankin Township, Michigan (Merrilla Dean from Canada was a witness). Thomas Lambert was a sign painter as were two of Samantha's brothers.

Son Daniel Lambert was born 06 Jul 1844, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Thomas and Samantha Lambert moved to California in the early 1850's and settled at Mud Springs in El Dorado County. The earliest entry for Thomas Lambert in the El Dorado County Grantee/Grantor Index is October 26, 1855.

Son William 'Dean' Lambert was born Jun 1858, California. Samantha and Thomas may have had a daughter Emma born about this time who did not survive.

In December of 1860 Thomas and Samantha homesteaded 160 acres at Mud Springs, California.

On April 8, 1863 daughter Lillian May, also called Mary, was born [Lillie's death certificate lists her parents as Samantha Dean and William Hoffman. It is not clear if Wm Hoffman was her biological father or her step-father]

Samantha married William Hoffman in California (possibly as early as 1861 in Placerville [citation needed])
April 1865: Thomas Lambert filed for divorce from his wife "Armantha Lambert" in El Dorado County. [I have not read the case papers] In 1867, Samantha's ex-husband Thomas married Nancy Crowther in Placerville, El Dorado Co., California.

Mrs. Samantha Hoffman died May 3, 1916 in Stockton California. Her death certificate lists her her parents as David S. Dean and Catherine Monroe. Her remains were removed to Oakland.
