She was the daughter of Richard T Shea and Priscilla Tinsley Shea. She was married for the first time in Los Angeles, CA in November 1933 to Kenneth Monroe Miles; they divorced. She attended 2 years of college and enlisted in the Women's Army Corp in October 1942. She married Maj Birrell Walsh of the USAAC in June 1943 and they had a son in 1944. The following year, COL Walsh was KIA in a plane crash.
