George Anderson Bowlin was born on August 7, 1824 at Caswell County, NC. Carroll County, NC has never existed. His father's and his mother's families both owned land in Caswell County, NC and Halifax County, VA as these counties border each other. George was named after his mother's first cousin, George Anderson Connally. George was the son of William Bowlin and Mildred Connally. George moved with his parents to Giles County, TN in 1830 and to Lincoln County, TN by 1834, when/where his father died. After his father's death, Mildred and the children moved to Huntsville in Madison County, AL to live with Mildred's third cousin, George Burton Connally. He died in 1838. George is reported to have moved to DeSoto County, MS in 1841, but no record of this has been located. He is next found in Medon, Madison County, Tennessee when/where he married Nancy Rebecca Parker on June 24, 1856. The family remained here until after the War Between the States. George served with two units during the war. He first served with the 14th Calvary, Co. C as a 2nd Lt. in 1863. He then served with the 18th Calvary, Co. K as a Private in 1864. After the War, the family moved to Richmond, Lee County, MS. George remained there the rest of his life. George died on November 27, 1901.
