A daughter of the late Davis and Susan Simpson Cumberledge, Mrs. Shanes was born April 9, 1885 in Wayne Township and resided all her life in the Brave vicinity. She was a member of Kent's Methodist Church at Brave and of the Golden Glow Rebekah Lodge No. 299, Wadestown, W. Va.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, whom she married in 1906, are two foster-children, Mrs. Vernon Johnson of Bellflower, Calif., and Wayne Shanes, serving with the Army at Ft. Knox, Ky.; one brother, R. I. Cumberledge of Brave, and three sisters, Mrs. George Cole, Mrs. Charles Cox and Miss Fanny Cumberledge, all of Brave.
