MARGUERITE B. PELOT Nov. 12, 1919 - May 30, 2009

Whether singing, dancing or presiding over a roomful of party goers, Marguerite Brescia Pelot was always charming, generous and ready for a laugh.

Born in Columbus, Georgia to Joseph Brescia and Seletha Mae Robinson, Marguerite was a court reporter at Ft. Benning, soloist in the Holy Family Catholic Church choir, and mother of three.

In 1967, she married Lt. Col. Mel S. Pelot, and the family relocated to Atlanta shortly thereafter. After both retired, the Pelots spent their time traveling, entertaining and enjoying membership in a variety of military and social organizations; following her husband's death in 1997, Marguerite remained a "social butterfly," singing and dancing with friends even after her 89th birthday.

On May 30, Marguerite followed her husband on the greatest adventure of all, passing peacefully at her home in the company of her family.

She is survived by a brother, William Brescia of Columbus; two children, Margueritte Roed of Marietta and Greg Land of Atlanta; grandsons Seth Land and Samuel Roed, and great-grandsons Drake and Roman Land. Another son, William Lokey Land, passed away last year.

A memorial service is scheduled for 12 noon at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Tuesday, June 2; visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon. Afterwards, a private family burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in East Point. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are asked to send contributions to the American Stroke Foundation. A.
