He was a building contractor for 35 years. He was a member of Hobbs Masonic Lodge No. 63, Lea County Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Yola Hynson of Vaughn, Wash.; a son, Fletcher Yoakum of Wrightwood, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
