April 18 1936 - Carroll Daily Herald
- B.A. Hargrafen, well known Carroll county farmer living just west of Carroll, passed away at 12:45 o'clock this morning at his home. Mr. Hargrafen had been in failing health the past year, but it was not until about three months ago that he became bedfast. Death was attributed to advanced old age.

Mr. Hargrafen had been a resident of this community since 1902 and had lived on the same farm located on the old highway just outside the city limits.

The deceased was born on March 24, 1855 near, Galena, IL. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hargrafen. Mary Kemps became his bride at a small country church near Sinsinawa Mound, WI on Feb 2, 1886.

After residing in Moville, Woodbury co, IA for several years, the Hargrafens came to Carroll in 1902. He had been a farmer all his life. Mr. Hargrafen was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul church and was active in the Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife, she passed away in February 1934; two sons, Raymond and Ernest, who died in infancy; three sisters, Margaret, Catherine, and one who died in infancy; and a brother Fred.

Survivors include a son, Archie, and a brother Joseph of Salem, OR. The body was taken to the Hargrafen home from the Kircher-Dietrich Funeral home this afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning in the Ss. Peter and Paul church. Rev. Lambert Schenkelberg will read the requiem mass and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
